Thai fontsไทย

Thai typefaces for print, screen and signage. Thai stacks vowels and tone marks above and below its letters, so preview real text — that stacking is where fonts differ most.

4 open-licensed fonts that can set Thai, each free to download for personal and commercial work.

Looped or loopless

Traditional Thai letters end their strokes in small loops; modern loopless styles drop them for a cleaner, more Latin look. Looped type reads best in long text, loopless suits headlines and branding.

No spaces between words

Thai does not put spaces between words, so a line can only break where software recognises a word boundary. Browsers do this with a dictionary; in design tools, check that long lines break in sensible places.

Setting Thai text

Thai needs a text engine that stacks vowels and tone marks; Word and current browsers handle it. Mark web text lang="th" so lines break at Thai word boundaries.
