Simplified or Traditional
Simplified characters are used in mainland China and Singapore, Traditional in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Many free display fonts cover only one set — type a few characters of yours into the preview and check none fall back to another font.
Character coverage
Free Chinese display fonts often cover just the 6,763 characters of the GB 2312 standard. That is plenty for everyday text, but rare characters in names and addresses may be missing.
Setting Chinese text
Chinese fonts run to several megabytes because they carry thousands of characters. On a website, subset the font to the characters you use rather than serving the whole file, and mark the text lang="zh".
