Unicode, not legacy fonts

Much older Punjabi text was typed in legacy fonts such as AnmolLipi, which store Gurmukhi letters in the slots of Latin ones. These fonts are Unicode, so legacy text needs converting before it displays correctly.

Tippi, bindi and addak

Gurmukhi marks nasal sounds with tippi (ੰ) and bindi (ਂ), and doubles consonants with addak (ੱ). Check that the font places them cleanly over the letters you use most.

Setting Punjabi text

Gurmukhi needs a text engine that positions vowel signs. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type.
