About Mukta Mahee
Mukta Mahee is the Gurmukhi member of Ek Type's Mukta family, drawn by Shuchita Grover and Noopur Datye. Mukta's aim is one harmonious design across Indian scripts without any single script dominating — here, a contemporary, humanist and nearly monolinear Punjabi.
It is calm and very readable, with seven weights from Extra Light to Extra Bold, which is unusually complete for Gurmukhi.
Use it for Punjabi apps, websites, signage and documents. Because the Mukta family also covers Devanagari, Gujarati and Tamil, it suits multilingual Indian projects that need one consistent voice.
Licence
Mukta Mahee is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.
Installing it
- Windows.
- Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
- macOS.
- Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
- On the web.
- Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an
@font-facerule rather than linking to this page. - Punjabi text.
- Gurmukhi needs a text engine that positions vowel signs. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type.
