About Vazirmatn

Vazirmatn is the workhorse of the Persian web — a simple, legible Persian and Arabic sans that Saber Rastikerdar started in 2015 under the name Vazir, aimed at web pages and applications. Its Latin comes from Roboto, so mixed Persian and English text sits together naturally.

The design is plain on purpose: open shapes, even strokes and steady spacing that hold up at small sizes on screen. It ships as a single variable file from Thin to Black.

Use it for interfaces, articles and documentation in Persian. It also covers Arabic and Urdu letters, though Urdu readers will usually prefer a Nastaliq for literary text.

Licence

Vazirmatn is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

Installing it

Windows.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
macOS.
Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
On the web.
Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an @font-face rule rather than linking to this page.
Persian text.
Persian needs right-to-left layout and letters that join. In Word, add Persian under the language settings. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type. Use a zero-width non-joiner where spelling needs a break inside a word, as in می‌خواهم.
