About Reem Kufi

Reem Kufi is a display face in the old Kufic style — the angular script of early Qur'an manuscripts — drawn by Khaled Hosny on the geometric grid of Fatimid Kufic and based on the work of the twentieth-century calligrapher Mohammed Abdul Qadir. Santiago Orozco drew the matching Latin.

Its squared, stately letters immediately read as historical, which makes it useful for titles, heritage signage, book covers and anything with a sense of occasion.

It is a headline face, not a text face. Set it large and short, and pair it with a quiet Naskh such as Amiri or a sans such as Cairo for anything longer than a line.

Licence

Reem Kufi is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

Installing it

Windows.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
macOS.
Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
On the web.
Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an @font-face rule rather than linking to this page.
Arabic text.
Arabic needs right-to-left layout and letters that join. Word handles both once Arabic is added under its language settings. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type if letters appear disconnected.
