About Lalezar

Lalezar is a loud, joyful display face built on the lettering of Iranian film posters from the 1960s and 70s — the era of Film-Farsi, a popular cinema of romances, musicals and larger-than-life heroes. Borna Izadpanah turned that hand-painted style into a modern Arabic-script typeface with a matching Latin.

The letters are fat, bouncy and tightly packed, made to shout from a wall. It is excellent for posters, packaging, event branding and anything retro or playful.

It is a single weight and strictly a display face — set it big and keep the text short. It covers Persian, Arabic and Urdu letters.

Licence

Lalezar is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

Installing it

Windows.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
macOS.
Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
On the web.
Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an @font-face rule rather than linking to this page.
Persian text.
Persian needs right-to-left layout and letters that join. In Word, add Persian under the language settings. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type. Use a zero-width non-joiner where spelling needs a break inside a word, as in می‌خواهم.
