About Gulzar
Gulzar is a contemporary Urdu Nastaliq designed for reading, not just for headlines. It was led by Borna Izadpanah, with font engineering by Simon Cozens and a Latin companion by Alice Savoie, and grew out of research into Urdu digital typefaces since the early 1980s and close study of Urdu calligraphy.
Where many Nastaliq fonts are built for display, Gulzar was drawn to stay legible at text sizes, on screen and in print — rare and valuable in a free Urdu font.
Like any Nastaliq it needs generous line spacing. It is a natural choice for Urdu articles, books and apps, and its Latin is drawn to sit with the Urdu, which helps in bilingual text.
