About Rozha One

Rozha One is a very high-contrast display face for Devanagari and Latin, released by the Indian Type Foundry in 2014. The thick-and-thin strokes are pushed to an extreme, and the Latin is drawn as a fat-face Didone of the kind seen on nineteenth-century posters, with an x-height so large it almost erases the difference between capitals and lowercase.

It is made for size: magazine covers, film titles, wedding stationery and posters.

At small sizes the hairlines vanish, so never use it for text. One weight, one purpose — set it big, give it space, and pair it with a calm sans.

Licence

Rozha One is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

Installing it

Windows.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
macOS.
Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
On the web.
Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an @font-face rule rather than linking to this page.
Hindi text.
Devanagari needs a text engine that builds conjuncts and places vowel signs. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type, or ि will land on the wrong side of its consonant.
