About Kalam
Kalam is a handwriting face for Devanagari and Latin, published by the Indian Type Foundry in 2014. It looks like everyday writing done with a felt-tip or ballpoint pen — a steep slant, open knots and slightly irregular strokes — yet each style is tuned to stay readable on screen.
That makes it a friendly choice for greeting cards, children's material, notes, social posts and anything that should feel personal rather than printed.
It has three weights: Light, Regular and Bold. Like any handwriting font it loses its charm in long text, so keep it to headings, captions and short passages, and pair it with a plain sans such as Hind.

Kalam is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

- Devanagari needs a text engine that builds conjuncts and places vowel signs. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type, or ि will land on the wrong side of its consonant.
