About Hubballi

Hubballi is a Kannada and Latin typeface by Erin McLaughlin, named after the city of Hubballi in northern Karnataka. It is monolinear, with rounded strokes and an informal, friendly tone that makes Kannada feel approachable.

The even strokes stay clear on screen, and the design works for interface text, short articles and casual headings alike.

It is a single weight, so pair it with a bolder face for strong headlines. Its built-in line spacing is tight; give Kannada's stacked consonants extra line height in paragraphs.

Licence

Hubballi is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

Installing it

Windows.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
macOS.
Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
On the web.
Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an @font-face rule rather than linking to this page.
Kannada text.
Kannada needs a text engine that stacks consonant clusters. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type.
