About Hind Siliguri
Hind Siliguri is the Bengali member of the Indian Type Foundry's Hind system — nine matching families for the scripts of South Asia. Like the Devanagari Hind, it was designed for user interfaces: humanist shapes, near-monolinear strokes, flat terminals and open apertures.
The result is a clean, modern Bangla that stays clear on phones and in dense layouts, with Latin characters drawn to match. It comes in five weights from Light to Bold.
It is a sound default for Bengali apps, websites and documents, and a good partner to the other Hind families when a page mixes Bengali with Hindi or English.
Licence
Hind Siliguri is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.
Installing it
- Windows.
- Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
- macOS.
- Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
- On the web.
- Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an
@font-facerule rather than linking to this page. - Bengali text.
- Bengali needs a text engine that builds conjuncts and reorders vowel signs such as ি and ে. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type.
