UnifrakturMaguntia

UnifrakturMaguntia is a blackletter face in the fraktur tradition — the broken, angular script that was standard for printing German-language text from the sixteenth century until the mid-twentieth. It descends from Peter Wiegel's digitisation of an older Mainz type, maintained as a Unicode-aware font by j. mach wust.

Blackletter is dense by construction: the strokes are heavy, the counters are small, and the texture on the page is what gave the style its English name. That makes it effective for anything invoking history, ceremony or heavy music — certificates, tattoo lettering, metal band artwork, beer labels, newspaper mastheads.

Two warnings. Never set it in all caps, where the ornate capitals become genuinely unreadable together. And be aware that the long s and various ligatures follow historical conventions that modern readers may stumble over.
