About Tiro Tamil
Tiro Tamil draws on the metal types cut in Madras — now Chennai — in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which themselves echoed palm-leaf manuscripts and the handwriting of the day. It was first made for the Murty Classical Library of India.
Its stroke modulation gives Tamil a lively, bookish rhythm, and traditional ligature forms can be switched on through OpenType features. The release includes an italic for the slanted style of traditional Tamil typography, and a Latin set with diacritics for transliteration.
Choose it for literature, classical poetry, scholarship and print. For screens and interfaces, Catamaran or Mukta Malar are the simpler choices.
