About Tajawal

Tajawal is a low-contrast geometric Arabic and Latin family from Boutros, a foundry known for Arabic corporate type, in seven weights from Extra Light to Black.

It modernises the Arabic without breaking calligraphic rules: the letters are built from even strokes and simple curves, so they sit comfortably beside Latin sans serifs in bilingual layouts — packaging, signage, apps and presentations.

One limitation to know: Tajawal covers Arabic but not the extra letters Persian and Urdu need, such as گ and ٹ. For those languages, pick Vazirmatn or one of the Urdu faces instead.

Licence

Tajawal is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.

Installing it

Windows.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
macOS.
Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
On the web.
Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an @font-face rule rather than linking to this page.
Arabic text.
Arabic needs right-to-left layout and letters that join. Word handles both once Arabic is added under its language settings. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type if letters appear disconnected.
