About Raleway

Raleway started life as a single hairline weight, drawn by Matt McInerney as an elegant display face, and was later expanded into a full family by Pablo Impallari and Rodrigo Fuenzalida. That origin still shows: the light weights are where it is most distinctive.

Its signature is the W, built with crossing diagonals rather than the usual four strokes, along with a set of discretionary ligatures that give it a subtly deco flavour. Those details read at headline sizes and disappear at body sizes, so the face is most itself when set large and fairly tight.

It works well as a headline partner to a plainer text face. In the heavier weights the distinctiveness flattens out and it becomes a competent but ordinary sans.
