About PT Sans
PT Sans was made for the Public Types of the Russian Federation project, released in 2009 for the three-hundredth anniversary of Peter the Great's civil type reform. Its aim was practical: to let the peoples of Russia read and write in their own languages, so it covers Russian and the letters of every title language of the Federation, alongside Western and Central European Latin.
The design draws on Russian sans serifs of the later twentieth century, with humanist touches that keep it warm and readable on screen.
It ships with regular, italic, bold and bold italic — a complete text family. It is one of the best free choices for Russian websites, documents and bilingual Cyrillic-Latin work; PT Serif is its matching serif.
Licence
PT Sans is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.
Installing it
- Windows.
- Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
- macOS.
- Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
- On the web.
- Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an
@font-facerule rather than linking to this page.
