About Gayathri
Gayathri is a gentle, modern Malayalam display typeface from Swathanthra Malayalam Computing, designed by Binoy Dominic. Its letters are open, round and evenly weighted, with a contemporary simplicity that feels fresh next to the more traditional Malayalam text faces.
It comes in Thin, Regular and Bold and is at its best at larger sizes: headlines, posters, titles and captions.
For long text, pair it with a reading face such as Manjari; for branding and editorial headings, Gayathri gives Malayalam a clean, modern voice.
Licence
Gayathri is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits use in personal and commercial work. Read the licence before redistributing the files or selling them on.
Installing it
- Windows.
- Right-click the downloaded file and choose Install, or drop it into Settings → Personalisation → Fonts.
- macOS.
- Double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
- On the web.
- Self-host the WOFF2 and declare it with an
@font-facerule rather than linking to this page. - Malayalam text.
- Malayalam needs a text engine that forms conjuncts. Word and current browsers handle it. In Photoshop, switch to the Middle Eastern and South Asian text engine under Preferences → Type.
